IT’S perhaps the most unlikely way anyone has ever landed a prime time gig on TV, but for Mark Humphries it’s the stranger than fiction story of how he became Network Ten’s newest game show host.
Two years ago, the SBS star was watching re-runs of UK game show Pointless on the ABC when he jumped on Twitter.
“I just loved it immediately, I just thought the concept was so clever and so unlike any other quiz show,” Humphries told news.com.au.
I want to host an Australian version of Pointless, @ABCTV. Best game show on TV.
— Mark Humphries (@markhumphries) August 29, 2016
“I put this tweet out saying if they ever make an Australian version of Pointless I’d love to host it, and I never really thought about it again.”
Then when reports emerged in May that Ten was commissioning a local version of the series, Humphries repeated his offer, this time embarking on what he calls a “very weak” and “desperate” Twitter campaign.
“I just half jokingly retweeted myself and added, ‘offer still stands @channelten, @endemolshine’ and then again thought nothing of it for the next couple of months,” Humphries said.
“Then I, out of the blue, got a call from someone at Endemol Shine (saying), ‘We’ve got this tweet here, are you being serious or are you being satirical?’ I’m like, ‘No I am serious. All right well, let’s talk.’”
Fast-forward to today and Humphries is the host of new Ten game show Pointless alongside Dr Andrew Rochford.
Taking over from Family Feud’s 6pm weekday timeslot, Rochford admits that Pointless’ rules can be hard to get your head around, but believes it will make sense once audiences watch the first episode.

Like Family Feud, 100 people are surveyed but are instead asked obscure trivia questions. Contestants on the show must then choose the answer that the least amount of people gave in order to score the lowest amount of points to win — sounds confusing right?
“My kids know how to play it, they’re 10, and they figured out how to play it by watching it,” Dr Rochford said.
“I think that we can get a little bit too caught up in the cleverness of it. People will get it, that’s my belief.”
The show has also got big shoes to fill, with Pointless already copping a backlash on social media from diehard Family Feud fans who have been “very vocal” about it being moved from the 6pm timeslot.
“Facebook fans of Family Feud I have seen say, ‘I will never, I will never watch Pointless you took away my Grant,”’ Humphries said.
“I would hope that those people would just give it a go, because when Family Feud started I was someone who was like, ‘Really?’ But then when it happened, it clearly did work.”
Pointless premieres Monday July 23 at 6pm on Network 10.

BRITNEY Spears’ boyfriend, Sam Asghari, thinks fate brought them together.
Asghari, 24, was cast in the singer’s Slumber Party music video only hours before it was set to start shooting, despite most castings taking place weeks in advance.
“I got a call at midnight,” Asghari told Men’s Health in an interview released this week. “It went through so much to get to me. I don’t know if it’s some sort of a blessing or just meant to be.”
The Tehran-born beefcake admitted he had butterflies in his stomach when he met Spears, 36, on the set, but managed to play it cool.
“She said, ‘Hi, I’m Britney,’ and I said, ‘I’m sorry. What’s your name again?’ I tried to be funny,” he said, laughing. “I don’t think anybody got it.”
After the video debuted in October 2016, the pair kept their romance under wraps for months before paparazzi spotted them on a date.
“After the video came out, nobody knew we were dating,” Asghari said. “I don’t think (we) had the intention to just be friends.”
While Spears and Asghari keep their two-year relationship largely private, they do engage in a bit of PDA on social media in the form of their adorable fitness videos, proving that the couple that sweats together stays together.
“The exercises, I come up with them, but the videos are because of my better half. She’s the video director,” he said. “It’s a very fun thing, and I look back at them and smile.”
Most of the clips are shot in Spears’ swanky home gym over the span of 20 to 30 minutes each, featuring Asghari benchpressing the Slave 4 U and kissing her with each sit-up.
“She motivates me more than anyone,” Asghari gushed. “It’s crazy how I can be humbled by a person like her. If I could be that humble when I’m that high in life, that would be the best thing. I grew up with three sisters, and my personality is just to be a supportive person for my family. And she’s family. I’m always going to support her. She is another blessing that happened to me.”

VH1 has released the Love & Hip Hop Hollywood Season 5 super trailer … and whew chile, THE GHETTO!
On the surface, Love & Hip Hop Hollywood would seem like it would be a bit more “classier” than its NYC, ATL and MIA counterparts. But nope, LHHH is just as ghetto as its sister shows. If not, more!
Kimberly, the artist formerly known as K. Michelle, has moseyed her way on over to yet another Love & Hip Hop franchise. After showing her ass (literally) in Atlanta and New York City, she’s taken her talent out west to Los Angeles, and she’s decided to remove those massive butt implants that helped catapult her to superstardom. But the road to self-love does come with a few caveats: dealing with the haters in L.A.
Princess Love and Ray J are FINALLY with child, but unfortunately, they’re still dealing with cheating rumors, which is pissing momma Sonja and sister Brandy off because Ray J isn’t really cheating “this time” (or so so they say). Oh, and Moniece is still hurling insults at Princess, and Princess is hurling them right back, which causes Moniece to attempt to attack a whole pregnant woman.
Lyrica and A1 have always been the most drama-free of the LHH Hollywood couples, but not this season. K. Michelle (err, we mean “Kimberly”) has come armed with a few allegations of infidelity on Lyrica’s part, and Brooke Valentine is corroborating those claims. Back in ATL, Karlie was shaking the tables, but in Hollywood, Lyrica is FLIPPING tables while Brooke laughs at her after calling her out for being “lit” with a “husband and a side n**ga.”
Lyrica Garett and A1’s mom Pam are back to beefing, and food and chairs go flying when the subject of Lyrica Anderson stepping out on A1 is brought up. And wayment. Is Safaree the man Lyrica has been sleeping with? Because A1 certainly thinks so, and jumps on top of a table to go after him.
And last, but certainly not least, is Teairra Mari, who has a new man in her life, but as usual, he comes with some problems. She’s apparently not his number one chick OR number two chick, but the NUMBER THREE chick in Akbar Abdul-Ahad’s harem of women. And he has also “allegedly” released explicit videos and photos of her. After busting the windows out his car, Jazmine Sullivan-style, Mari teams up with Lisa Bloom for a press conference announcing a “revenge porn” lawsuit against Abdul-Ahad with her BFFs Moniece and Brooke by her side.
Like I said before… WHEW CHILE, THE GHETTO!!!
Love & Hip Hop Hollywood Season 5 premieres on Monday, July 23rd, but before then, get into the super trailer below:
PRINCESS Charlotte clearly takes after her late grandmother.
After photos were released of the cheeky three-year-old posing with her family at Prince Louis’ christening this week, royal watchers were quick to point out that she bears a striking resemblance to Princess Diana, who died in a car accident in 1997.
To prove the point, Instagram account “LovePrincessDiana” shared a photo of Prince William and Prince Harry’s mum at a similar age to her granddaughter, noting in the caption that “Princess Charlotte has Diana’s eyes.”
As of Thursday morning, the post had attracted over 7000 likes, with plenty of people noticing that — as well as the eyes — Charlotte and Diana also have very similar lips.
In the past, Charlotte has also often been compared to a young Queen Elizabeth II.
The little princess has been winning herself plenty of new fans in recent months thanks to her cute antics at official occasions (like that cheeky tongue at Prince Harry and Meghan’s royal wedding).
But last week, it was her touching gesture in her brother Prince Louis’ royal christening portraits that attracted the most attention.
In one of the stunning family photos — taken by Matt Holyoak following the ceremony at St James’s Palace — Prince William, Kate Middleton holding Prince Louis, Prince George and Princess Charlotte were all perched on a lounge at Clarence House, with Prince Charles, Camilla, Prince Harry and Meghan standing behind them.
The formal moment was broken by Charlotte, who could be seen looking away from the camera and instead gazing at Louis, while clasping his tiny hand in hers in a sweet sisterly gesture.

THOMAS Markle’s heart surgery which saw him miss the royal wedding was “made up” to garner sympathy, a source has claimed.
A close friend of the Duchess of Sussex said Meghan’s father, 73, faked illness as an excuse to dodge the royal nuptials, the Daily Mail reports.
The source also said that the former lighting director wanted sympathy after it emerged that he had staged paparazzi photographs in the run up to the big day.
Thomas told ITV’s Good Morning Britain that he had a heart stent fitted at Sharp Chula Vista Medical Center in Tijuana, Mexico, on May 16, meaning he missed Meghan’s wedding to Prince Harry.
But the Mail claims the clinic said “no such name” had ever checked into the hospital.
The source, who claims to be close to the former US actress, 36, says the 73-year-old, who is said to live a reclusive life in Mexico, fabricated the heart scare.
They said: “The whole story about Meghan’s father undergoing heart surgery was made up.”
“He had to come up with a good enough reason not to attend her wedding and avoid any further embarrassment after those staged photos went public.”
Thomas recently revealed he fears he has been frozen out by Meghan and Harry and has not heard from anyone within the royal family since the wedding.
However, the source said the 73-year-old “brought this upon himself” and if he was actually sick Meghan would have visited him.
They told the Mail: “Now everyone’s feeling sorry for him. They shouldn’t.
“If anything, feel sorry for Meghan.”
Thomas told The Sun he is considering coming to England in an attempt to make peace with his duchess daughter.
The 73-year-old says he is ready to fly from Mexico to London after almost two months without contact.
Thomas says he is desperate to see Meghan amid concerns over the “pressure” she faces in her new role.
He said: “If I chose in a month, or couple of months, to go to England — I want to see my daughter. I’m thinking about it.
“I don’t care whether she is p***** off at me or not.
“I’m not going to wave flags and make a fool of myself. I’d find a hotel room and try to reach them.”
The news came a day after Thomas made a heartfelt plea to former Suits actress Meghan in The Sun On Sunday — telling her: “I love you and want to talk to you. Pick up the phone.”
But if the wall of silence from Kensington Palace continues, he is prepared to fly to Britain without a royal appointment.
Thomas added at his home in Rosarito, Mexico: “It’s sad that it’s got to this point. I’m sorry it’s come to this. Yes, some of it is my fault. But I’ve already made it clear that I’m paying for this for the rest of my life.”
The father of the Duchess of Sussex has spoken for the first time on UK television, opening up about missing his daughter’s wedding.
In an interview with ITV’s Good Morning Britain, Thomas Markle said he cried while watching the ceremony but that he was thankful to Prince Charles for stepping in.
Mr Markle also addressed the photographs he staged in the lead up to the wedding, conceding he realises it was a ‘serious mistake’.

The Thor star and his model partner flaunted their impressive dance moves as they rocked out to Despacito while celebrating Elsa’s 42nd birthday.

Elsa also took to Instagram to thank people for well wishes, posting a selfie with her hubby alongside the caption: “Best birthday ever, with all the people I love, especially this one, always making me laugh!”
The pair have three young children together, India Rose, six, and twin sons Tristan and Sasha, four. The family live a normal life away from the bright lights of Hollywood at their stunning multimillion-dollar Byron Bay retreat in northern NSW.
Hemsworth wanted to move back to Australia in order to give his children a humble upbringing, but regularly travels overseas for his long line of film works.
He was photographed shooting his latest film Men in Black 4 in London just two weeks ago, sporting polished black shoes and sunnies with a smart white shirt.
The 34-year-old will play an agent in Sony’s spin-off of the popular alien comedy franchise.
He will also appear as Thor again in next year’s hugely anticipated Avengers 4, the sequel to Infinity War.

CORY Monteith’s mum revealed the actor was on pain medications for “massive” dental work weeks before he died of heroin overdose in 2013.
Speaking out five years after her son’s death, Ann McGregor told People the pain medication taken due to dental work done between May and July 2013 may have derailed the actor’s sobriety. Monteith’s stints in rehab weakened his tolerance for drugs, which meant a small amount in his system could cause him to overdose.

“He had little teeth and they were all capped. He had a lot of medication in his system, which was not good for his body coming out of rehab,” McGregor said in an interview published this week. “He didn’t have enough drugs in his system to kill him, but for some reason it did because of his intolerance [built up by periods of intermittent sobriety].”
Monteith was found dead in a Vancouver hotel room on July 13, 2013. Authorities said the 31-year-old died of a “mixed drug toxicity” of heroin and alcohol. Traces of morphine and codeine were also found in his system.
McGregor still remembers receiving a hysterical phone call from her son’s then-girlfriend.
“I got a call from Lea [Michele, Monteith’s girlfriend of over a year] and she was screaming on the phone,” she said. “She was yelling, ‘Is it true, is it true about Cory?’ and I said, ‘What about Cory?’ I had heard nothing. And then police knocked on my front door.”
Once McGregor heard the news, she “went into a state of numbness.”
“I just shut off all emotions, and I was numb,” she said.
McGregor said her son had told her he was using drugs in December 2012, seven months before he died. He completed a month in rehab the following April.
“Drugs were his way of checking out,” McGregor said.
“Cory didn’t want to die.”
Monteith was already dealing with substance abuse by his early teens. He was smoking marijuana and drinking by 13. Monteith was also hanging out with an older group of people at a young age after skipping two grades because of his advanced learning skills.
By the time he was 19, the Glee star had done two stints in rehab.
“He tried to keep everything from me, because he loved me and wanted to protect me,” McGregor said. “He was just always so curious. And the darker world just drew him in.”
Monteith got sober and moved to Los Angeles from their home in Victoria, British Columbia. He landed a few small roles before getting the lead role in Glee, where he met then-girlfriend Lea Michele.
But McGregor said her son wasn’t ready for the Hollywood lifestyle.
McGregor said she’s still trying to pick up the pieces five years after her son’s death.
“My world totally stopped. And I’m a different person than I was before,” she said. “Cory was such a loving and genuine person. And the best part of his life was still ahead.”

KATY Perry has opened up about her struggle to deal with the negative response to last year’s album Witness, admitting she felt bouts of “situational depression.”
“Music is my first love and I think it was the universe saying: ‘Okay, you speak all of this language about self-love and authenticity, but we are going to put you through another test and take away any kind of validating “blankie.” Then we’ll see how much you do truly love yourself,’” she said in the August issue of Vogue Australia.
Despite debuting atop the Billboard 200, Witness garnered mixed reviews from critics and fans alike. Perry, 33, was pained as a result.
“I have had bouts of situational depression and my heart was broken last year because, unknowingly, I put so much validity in the reaction of the public, and the public didn’t react in the way I had expected to … which broke my heart,” she said.
Perry retreated to California’s Hoffman Institute (a mental health retreat) in January to focus on herself.
“For years, my friends would go and come back completely rejuvenated, and I wanted to go, too,” Perry explained. “I was ready to let go of anything that was holding me back from myself.”
The experience wasn’t lost on the pop star, who says she’s grown from the setback.
“That brokenness, plus me opening up to a greater, higher power and reconnecting with divinity, gave me a wholeness I never had. It gave me a new foundation. It’s not just a material foundation: It’s a soul foundation,” Perry said.
